‘Death by ax’: Fate of millions of research animals at stake in NIH payments lawsuit

In a recent article in Science, Dr. Paul Locke was among those interviewed to discuss the consequences that cuts to NIH research grants could have on animals currently held within testing facilities in the US. Dr. Locke argues that while biomedical research needs to move away from the use of animal models, the process should be incremental as to minimize any harm done to the animals in captivity. As it stands, the dramatic nature of these cuts would do far more harm than good.
